Chavacano

17 February 2008 28 views by: rhodilee 6 Comments

I was in Zamboanga city last week and most of the people indeed speak chavacano. Chavacano is what you may call a local adaptation of the spanish language. It is primarily spoken in Zamboanga City which is why the City is now promoted as Asia’s Latin City.

My husband’s maternal family speaks chavacano but I have never learned to use it. I really like to hear people speak in chavacano though. I wonder if people who have been studying to speak Spanish can also understand chavacano. Chavacano is afterall a combination of the spanish, cebuano and tagalog languages.

Thank you for the information but you do not have to put lots of EXCLAMATION MARKS in your comment. I should have said “evolved from the Spanish language” not “local adaptation of the spanish language”.
