China: Love it or Hate it

“I hate China”, this is what I told my husband some time this month after learning that:
- The Chinese government spent several billion dollars for the Olympics. (Why spend this much for an international event when there are thousands of Chinese people living in extreme poverty?)
- It closed down several factories for the olympics (what about those factory workers?)
- It tried to play God controlling the weather
- It did not pay much attention on an Olympics murder and
- It decided to find somebody to lip-sync their national anthem because the real singer is “not as pretty”
Nevertheless, China has undoubtedly done a great job and I must even say that it has re established the standards that should be expected from the prestigious olympics. Olympic games, in its root is an illustrious international athletic, religious and ceremonial gathering of athletes but its luster and importance has declined through the years. The 2008 China Olympics, however, has revived the prestige and the impact that the Olympics can bring. And whether we like it or not, the China Olympics has paved way for this Nation to be recognized as the near future’s Super Power that will potentially dominate many countries including the United States.
