Three babies already died and more than 6,000 more fell ill in China after drinking contaminated milk that contains a chemical that is usually used in plastic, melamine.
Worse, quality inspection officials also reveal that around 20 percent of the dairy companies that operate in the country are selling products with melamine. The milk formula companies include Yashili and Suncare which also export their products to other countries. The toxic milk was first linked to top selling dairy company Sanlu which is co owned by New Zealand dairy company Fonterra.
According to Aljazeera.net, the melamine was intentionally added into the milk powder so the product will seem to contain more protein. The chemical is said to result in kidney stone problems and other health risks among affected babies.
