Did people vote for Trillanes because he is good looking?

This is a reaction on a news article published by the Philippine Inquirer last May 16 entitled “Trillanes scores coup in Senate Magic 12”. Specifically, I would like to comment on the statement given by “another Palace functionary, who declined to be named because she is not the political spokesperson” and who “expressed dismay at the early results favoring the rebel soldier [Antonio Trillanes]”.
“The official said voters might have “romanticized” [Antonio Trillanes] and voted for him: “Maybe the voters think he is eye-catching. He has a good physique, and he can speak well.””
Yes Antonio Trillanes is good looking but a number of voters would have not voted for him simply because of his physique. For the record, Trillanes is not the only good looking senatoriable. Miguel Zubiri is very good looking with more ads and exposures on tv but he has unstable position in the Magic 12.
It is an insult to have a palace functionary saying that the reason people vote for a person is because he is good looking. It gives the impression that palace officials see the electorate as dumb and idiotic.
If this is the way palace officials think, then, the thought that Filipinos voters are dumb might have also been the basis of the palace senatorial line up. There might have been the thought that since voters are dumb, they will vote for a person who has lots of ads or that people will vote for a person simply because he is from Mindanao or he is a fellow Ilocano or Moslem.
People nowadays are becoming wise voters learning to vote not based on the number of ads a candidate has, not because of regionalism and more importantly not because of good looks. People are learning to vote based on principles and on the type of platform senatoriables present and justify to the people.
Ironically, Trillanes scores up in areas where there are more educated and principled voters. The Team Unity had it 12-0 in Maguindanao where there is scarcity in quality education.

fack them!
We choose candidate not only bacause they are good looking, we vote for them coz of their capability to run the goverment base on their educational and experience.
People voted for Trillanes because of his integrity. How many young soldiers will stand up against the Chief? Who else will risk the promise of a long and successful career in the military for his convictions.
we should not underestimate the filipino voters. filipinos because of poverty caused by corrupted politicians thrive to accept monetary gifts during election time, however, we are outright smart and downright wise that’s why we know who is worthy of our vote. the character and integrity of the candidate take precedence over all empty promises and or physical attributes. compare all your senatorial candidates. who is more worthy of your vote than Trillanes young, country enthusiast who stands up for basic filipino values at the expense of his life and his career. what we should be worried about are candidates who condone what the blind majority think and believe in. more power for Trillanes and i pray that the final draw will show victory for him.

Maybe that palace functionary and the palace itself are the idiots for thinking that way.
People voted for Trillanes because of his idealism, guts and integrety.Hindi rin siya TRAPO.
Not only is there scarcity of quality education in Maguindanao, there it is the connivance between the local political warlords, the AFP and Comelec who determine election results in the said province.
It is the dictates of the feudal and semi-feudal set-up (the landowners) and not the democratic will of the people that prevailed in various parts of the country.
That is the administration’s “local campaign machinery” at work. That is how the dirty 12-0 sweep in Maguindanao was delivered.
I believed that Trillnes was voted because of his priciples in life and concern for the country. Voting him for senatorial race was the only way people can express support and sympathy for his struggle due to this marial law type government under Gloria Aroyo. God bless Trillanes and more power.
I totally agree with those who vote for Trillanes, he has no money and freedom during the campaign but he has a big heart , loyalty and integrity to serve his motherland.
Yes, matter-of-fact, I talked to some squatter area folks and they told me they’re going to vote for Trillanes because he looks good.
Actually,it’s okay for Filipinos to vote for Trillanes whether because he is goodlooking or if they believe in what Trillanes have been fighting for (kung meron nga). It actually depends on each Filipino whether he is educated or not; whether he is dumb or idiot; or even if he sold his vote to those greedy-for-power politicians (they’re all the same anyway!)
Personally , I voted for Trillanes because i was really impressed with his firmness and strong determination during the Oakwood Mutiny .( ? ) I like his ideology and I believe he is the kind of politician who will really perform well , not for himself but for the welfare of the nation …Being consistent in the rank 9-12 in the partial results really mean something .
When in fact , h e is the only candidate who wasn’t given a chance to campaign . But how come people voted for him ?
It is a STATEMENT against the government .
i voted for Trillanes because he has the integrity and idealism of a future leader! He sacrificed his career to tell the government what’s happening to his fellow comrades! All the fightings in Mindanao were also planned by the AFP! for the Generals to be promoted! while soldiers at field battle for something only their superiors would benefit! Yung nangyaring 12-0 for TU sa maguindanao is an example that the Government is cheating!!! Cheaters are loosers!!!
Whatever they say, TRILLANES has the guts to fight for a cause….. It should be the government which will be ashamed of themselves for whatever they did to our country… TRILLANES, we’ll be around you till the end……
Guys, maybe you should know Trillanes a little better. What do you know about him personally?
you know, voters are not idiot or stupid we need a strong intigrity, principle, radical in the sense that for the benifits of many filipinos we are educated voters dont challege small people stop trapo politicians at long last the filipino aware what was happenning in our political arena its a big nsults those big in politics despite trillanes is underdog in politics mabuhay ka !!!!! tuloy ang laban to iradicate trapo politicians i sallute you pre….
As what they say” philippines is a democratic country” but today “philippines is a democrazy country” and the main reason why they call us like that its because of our government….chaos of all chaotic! Go for GO! trillanes must be in…his a man with integrity!
You know zandville trillanes came from a family who already have everything remember he is a PMA’er Ive heared from my pma’er friendn that they have a monthly allowance of 14th++ a month, The allowance start from being a 4th class so it means that they have money after graduation right? so may be trillanes keep he’s money to buy he’s own car having a car is every guy’s dream what we are talking here is what really trillanes wants to improve the AFP…… And he wants to stop the WAR that the generals planning to have money…………………
