Ending slavery among Filipinos

Twyla joins the blogathon 2007 to put an end to slavery and I salute her for her courage to stand for the rights of others (who may not even be aware of their own rights).Despite the modernity of this age, and few people are even aware of this, there are thousands of slaves around the world.Many Filipina domestic workers who returned from Middle East, for example, reported that their employers treat them like slaves, physically beating them and even depriving them of food and even their hard earned salaries.
In the Philippines, here are the things that we can do to put an end to modern day slavery:
- Support anti-trafficking legislations (What is trafficking in relation to modern day pinoy slavery?)
- Create awareness on the existence of the problem
- Be part of advocacies against human trafficking
- Report illegal recruiters to POEA
I wonder if there are also Philippine sites where people can donate car to help rehabilitate victims of trafficking. In the US, for example, there are reportedly car donations that are used to finance social welfare programs that help support the homeless, single parents and rehabilitate drug dependents.
