In case

2008 will perhaps be one of hubby and I’s most expensive years. We are renovating the house; the salary of our helper is twice the salary of our helper two years ago; we will start to pay for our son’s tuition; we will be traveling as a family, etc. I thought about all the expenses and realized that my earnings will not be enough for me to set aside some amount of money for “emergency purposes”. At first I thought at least I have an insurance but while I read and skim through the pages of my life insurance terms and conditions, I realized that my insurance is for extreme cases. This means that I still got insufficient funds in case I meet an accident, get extremely sick and I need to be hospitalized.

In the Philippines, many people rely on such things as SSS health benefits in case they get sick, had an accident and are not able to work but honestly, the money that SSS can pay for is not enough to compensate a period when one cannot work and is paying for a number of hospital bills and medications.

A number of medical practitioner relatives can provide me with the health care that I need in case I get sick (fever, sore throat, etc.) but accidents are a different thing. I want to have an Accident Compensation coverage. I just hope that in case I will get such coverage, it will not be outrageously difficult to get my claim.
