New Year’s Resolution
Come last week of December, I will once again be hearing of people who are making long lists of new year’s resolution. I used to make new year’s resolution but have not been doing it the past 12 years. Instead of listing the things that I want to change about myself, I have been planning and even listing the goals for the coming year. I have already blogged about my career goals in one of my previous blog posts.
In 2004, I listed my goals for the year 2005. During that time, my goals seem to be quite impossible because they clash with my other goals. During that time, I want to find a good paying job that caters to my personality, interests and degree. I also wanted to be able to spend most of my time with my family not missing any special occasion like birthdays and anniversary. Unless I start a business, finding a good paying job at that time will be impossible if you want to be with your family most of the time. I listed my goals anyway.
In 2005, I landed a job as HR officer working only half day. The pay is not good though and the system within the organizations sucks so I resigned despite people’s advices that I need to look for a new day job first before resigning. Duh, I better be jobless than die early with that job. I focused on writing freelance and up to this day, I am working from home doing what I love best, writing. I also blog and if you have been problogging, you will understand how financially rewarding it is to blog
. To top it all, I get to spend most of my time with my family; I NEVER missed a single special occasion. I neither have to leave my son to a yaya too because I can take care of him myself.
A few years ago, one of the things that top my new year’s resolution list is to wake up early but ironically, I always wake up late on January 1. I am glad I stopped listing unrealistic and sometimes illogical resolutions.
