I just received a phone call from PhilAm about 5 minutes ago telling me that I have a free insurance certificate for pick up from PhilAm plans. Makoy was skeptical about this when he received the same call in 2007 (read his post here: http://makoyskie.blogspot.com/2007/04/free-insurance.html)
Well, I am skeptical about this too but what if IT is really free? Roy (http://reflectionsbyroy.blogspot.com/2008/07/free-insurance-from-philam-plans.html) said the insurance is indeed free.
I decided to go for IT. The meeting will be at the PhilAm building here in Davao so at least this gives me an assurance that I will likely be dealing with people working at Philam.
I was told that I will not pay for anything. I only need three ID’s for verification purposes.
I will post an update later after my appointment with the Philam manager this 2PM.
Updated August 2009: I was lucky circumstances prevented me from going to the Philam building on the day I planned to get the “free insurance”. A relative also advised me not to go. Please read the comments for more information about this free insurance from Philam.

hello,
me too, i recieved a call about free insurance sa anda daw yata. may appointment ako 2:30 but im skeptical and hesitant kasi baka meron babayaran or merong hard selling. madali pa naman ako mag oo pag meron binebenta. update mo agad ako ha pag in case tapos mo na makuha.
Rainier,
My aunt discouraged me to go so hindi ako natuloy dito. Ang sabi nia something like this happened to her friend, she thought she got a free insurance pero na charge sia sa credit card nia although the credit card should have served as an identification only. Di ko lang sure kung Phil Am din yun. If you decide to go, I suggest that you do not bring your credit card.
Thank you for posting information like this one. You’re actually helping people not waste their time on these insurance agents. Someone called me on the phone yesterday with the same offer. What bothers me is the call was from a cellphone number. Then she really ask for the type of credit card I use but I did not give it. They require you for a credit card as part of your ID. Credit cards cannot be used as an ID and it is not necessary to verify that you is you. Government issued ID is available and so with SSS and company ID.
The issue here is not the free insurance, the real issue here is where they get our cellphone numbers and names and regional location? Is someone selling our names with our phone numbers? I don’t think our friends will give away our phone numbers and names this way.
I just received a call from them today stating the same. and yes i was asked if i am a user of any credit company. I am supposed to go to their office ryt now but I am skeptical abt it. Thats why I had to research about it. Thanks for this post.

John,
I’m also wondering how spammers get our contact numbers. I have a closely guarded number and in less than a week of using the number, I already get text messages from people offering loans, etc.
Emma,
The offer is tempting but freebies like that seem too good to be true.
i also have the same problem. with philam plans Jones Cebu beside .. they call me that i won a free accidental insurance for 25,000.00 thousand..i dont know where they get my number.. and they want me to go to there office for the claim of the free insurance… when i went on there office, because time to time they call me in my cell or in the office to claim the free insurance… before they give the free insurance, the agent ask you to have 30 mins. just to discuss something about the insurance.. afterward the agent offer you a some insurance… magaling silang magsalita.. dinadaan nila sa paspasan na its like di ka na makapag isip-isip., tapos nun.. hiniram nila ung credit card ko.. to check that i have a credit card before nila ibigay yung free insurance.. after wards sabihin nila e.check daw nila if pwede ba daw ako maka.avail ng insurance nila.. e verify daw nila sa banko.. diko napansin, they swip my credit card and pinapirma na nila ako ng mga docs. diko na napansin kung anong mga docs yun.. kc nagmamadali din ako kc.. may work pa ako.. pagdating ko sa office tiningninan ng kasama ko sa office ung docs sabi ng kasama ko na swip daw ung credit card ko kc my receipt na naka attached sa docs na binigay nila.. akala ko chinicheck lang nila na maka avail ba ako sa insurance nila.. Actually its my first time na maka.incounter ng ganun… and i dont really have any idea about that.. so.. yun.. its seem like na naloko ako.. gusto ko sanang e.cancel yung insurance ko sa philam.. is there any way to cancel my insurance in philam?.. di ko kasi gusto yung policy and procedure nila… na.loko talaga ako sa agent na yun.. please help me.. give me some idea how to cancel my insurance in Philam in Jones Beside YMCA building.. Salamat.. Sana kayo din wag kayong basta.basta maniniwala sa mga insurance na hindi naman kayo nag.apply… tapos tatawagan kayo.. tanungin kung my credit card kaba? wag kayong magpadala ng ganun. Godbless..
same here in cagayan de oro. marami rin kami nabiktima nito. they’ll ask for ur credit card kasi for them to check daw. akala naman namin they’l check if our card is a partner with their establishment (kasi diba there are other cards that are not acceptable to certain establishments). pagbalik nung staff nila kasama pa ng manager, they have with them na the sales slip! they had my credit card swiped without me! ang kapal ng mga mukha! can we have this issue reported to the ryt media (like for exmple the local abs-cbn news networks so more people are aware of this scam?
I just got the same phone call from Philam plans asking me to go to their office here in Bacolod City. Syempre skeptical ako so research agad sa net ’bout sa “scum” na to. I have an appointment later at 2pm but di ako pupunta (nag-commit lang ako para matapos agad ang phone call. hehe) Obviously, it’s a scum ‘coz they’re asking you personal questions about sa credit card mo over the phone lang like your credit limit, outstanding balance, except lang yung account number magmukhang discreet.. Dapat malaman na to ng authorities para wala nang mabiktima or ireport natin sa media.
My gosh this is getting way overboard! Sabi ko nga, it’s a legitimate offer but what’s not right is the deception! swiping your credit card without you telling about it..basta2x nalang esinaswipe! my gosh hindi biro yan ha! to think its a huge amount! That strategy is not fair and hindi dapat kunsentihin..
If naswipe yung credit cards ninyo without u really approving it, I suggest you call your credit card company and tell them to block billing from philamlife or kung anumang company name dinadala nila in billing those poor victims. Philamlife should do something about it, this will become a big issue kung hindi cla titigil.

hello po sa inyo… around three weeks ago, i received a phone call from PhilAm Plans ata yun, aying I was referred by someone and I have a Php25k worth of Accidental Death and Dismemberment coverage from them. Sabi pa, in order to claim it, I need to present three valid ID’s. My sister went to PhilAm Plans Cubao office to claim her cash loan check, since I remember the phone call, i gave it a try. I was asked to sign form, then the first person who talked to me, asked for a Bank ID and he told me the credit card will do, also he asked for my company ID and gov’t isued ID so I gave him my Driver’s License too. After that I was introduced to a Receiving Manager, she looked nice and presentable. She started praising me, asking me personal questions then she said she knows something that might be of my interest. She told me not to let my sister know because it i a limited offer and not everyone qualifies for that offer. I asked her to tell me more about it, after some presentation, she asked for my HSBC credit card, asked for my other credit cards then she left, she said the approval will take about 3-5 mins. When she came back, she introduce me to a Unit Manager, then they have a landline and they’re trying to call HBC. they said my card was declined, I got confused as to WHY they SWIPED my CARD?!! HSBC said they charged my card Php 11,000+. The had me sign on the receipt and said I was approved for a Php50k plan. They let me sign other forms, sobrang bilis ng mga pangyayari. Walang explanation, they just let me print my name and sign them all. I tried reading them but the fine prints and lengthy words made my tired eyes grew even more stupid. Di ko siya naintindihan, and since I have my sister waiting for me outside, i was in a hurry. When we got home, I reviewed the photocopied paper they gave me. I saw that it was a for authorizing them to charge my HSBC credit card, and I am expected to pay the other amount of Php 30 before november ends.
It was around an hour when we reached Home and I contacted the Lady I talked to, I told her I want to cancel it, and she said Low-batt na yung cellphone niya. She asked for my landline and I waited for her to call. Then I sent her a text message, I begged for her to help me cancel it. And she is prepared with her rebuttals like “so yung budget yung primary concern mo?” and also “if you will not be asked to pay 30K will you still be interested to continue with the plan”. She said ipapa-approve daw niya sa mga managers niya then she wil update me, 24hrs have passed, I still didnt get a feedback. I dont know what to do. Please tell me how to cancel this.
Yung nasa paper “Progidy and Educational Plan ang nakalagay, and i remembered the manager saying “yun kasi yung naka-register sa SEC”… oh.. my.. i really don’t know how they made me say Yes to it. I just really went there to accompany my Ate and to check the offer for Accidental Death and Dismemberment kasi sabi i-claim ko lang. Then I am torn now.
My mom said di daw ako nag-iisip, which is true, I still cannot accept that I agreed to something like this. I am only 23 yrs old and working for less than two years. I have other bills to pay. and yung 11k na charge sa credit card ko is too much, even more the 30k that they are asking me to pay on the 13th of November.
Help me naman po. I dont know where to start disputing this. Should I call HSBC? How do we dispute a charge on the credit card and how can I cancel this when they have the docs with my signature on them..
you can also send me an email at jempascual@yahoo.com
Thanks! you’re feedback and tips will be appreciated.
God Bless mga kababayan! I hope to get this resolved soon. I can hardly sleep and eat because of this. Di ako makapaniwala na ganun lang, napa-oo ako. i wasnt really thinking. I need to stop blaming myself and start resolving my problem now.

hello po..I just received a phone call (landline) last thursday, nov 5,2009, from Rex, a certain agent of philam life insurance telling me i was one of the 30 lucky persons out of 3,000 persons referred in our place to be awarded with a free accident insurance worth Php25,000.00 .. he told me i don’t have to pay anything. all i have to do is go to their office & claim the said certificate.. they were waiting for me for three weeks na daw and the last day of claiming supposedly would be yesterday.. naisip ko, “malay ko ba, na 3 weeks na yun eh ngayon lang may kumontak sa akin?”.. at first, i though, “wow, that would be great if ever it’s absolutely free???” — am being skeptic however, things like “who could have referred my name (& my contact details, that is, to them?? / maybe they had some hidden agenda like offering me one of their plans & “bonus” na lng ung accident insurance?? ) — or maybe this is just a scam — pero, sa philamlife office mismo ako pinapapunta..hmmmm… but eventually, i smelled something fishy & being skeptical of the said “free” offer when he told me na part of the identification procedure is I HAVE TO PRESENT MY CREDIT CARD (hindi naman daw nila kukunin, HIHIRAMIN lang daw den isasauli din (????); titingnan lang daw ung NAME na naka-embossed dun — HELLO???? kelan naman naging valid for identification ang credit card??? when i actually have valid IDs like passport, company ID, GSIS,etc,etc..???
but anyway, I told him I’ll find time the next day to go & claim my “free insurance certificate” para matapos na yung phone call , when i got to our office yesterday, i immediately searched the net about this “free accident insurance from philamlife” — and BOOM!! yun na nga, tama hinala ko, something fishy is going on.. the free insurance is just a “bait” for their prospective clients (or appropriately, legal “victims”) to simply come to their office — and yun na, dun na magsisimula ang lokohan procedure nila … pls see the following links:

by the way po, dahil nga na-confirm ‘yung hinala ko, i didn’t waste my time in going to their office yesterday…so kagabi, tumawag na naman ung agent sa bahay namin, siguro he was about to ask bakit hindi me nakapunta sa office nila kahapon…since ayoko po syang kausapin dahil baka may masabi lang akong makakasakit ng kapwa, I let my husband answer the phone call.. He simply (but firmly) told Rex na “Im sorry, but my wife is not interested anymore about your offer. Thank you”.. so that’s the end of it…natapos din…
but yung mga kababayan po natin (see links) na naloko na, who are already indebted with thousands sa mga credit cards nila , kawawa naman po..they were still in a dilemma, not knowing what to do or saan po sila hihingi ng tulong… anyway, i just hope this email could somehow help them in any way..Thanks po ulit..

i have an update on my case. It was January 9 of this year when we finally went to the Philam Plans Office here in cagayan de oro after the so many calls we got from them re the limited offer daw. They even have a dealine as to until when you can avail the offer, usually within the day only. What’s funny that i didnt notice b4 with this so called very limited offer that u can only avail the same day is that they keep on calling again to tell u of the offer and d deadline is again until that day only.
so going back to my case, after the swiping of my credit card and all the paper signing (w/c is only about 10mins i guess), i didnt even understand what the PLAN really is because they were very careful and focused on closing the deal w/o our direct consent. I immediately came back to their office 15mins after. I was like being hypnotized at their office and was awoke as soon i got out. That was really the feeling. I was really ashamed of myself then and didn’t even discuss this with my family and friends. I was relieved when i found out this link, after all im not the only one and i really think the whole process ive gone thru with them was masterfully taught to them. If its nationwide i dont think the top managemnt or its head office is not aware of this. When I came back 15mins after I immediately asked for their manager and the rep who were there on the whole process. I wanted to cancel the whole plan and the credit card trnsxn. Suddenly then the rep is i think no longer allowed to talk to me. it was the manager (her name i wont 4get: Mary Jecelle Ramos-Go) who keeps on entertaining me. She told me the people who can cancel it are already gone (its after 3pm then). I should go back the next day she said. I also called the credit card company to ask if i can cancel the transaction since it’s still a hanging trans and they told me it cant be. Only after they receive from Philam a chargeback request.
The next day I came back to Philam to be told by the same manager again that the credit card trnsxn was already submitted because its a routine daw 4pm of everyday to settle the swiping mahine! she should have told me that the day before or maybe she should have told me immediately that day of the transaction that the people pala who can cancel are the finance people because its a credit card trnsxn! she should have assisted me to the finance office the same day, sana nahabol! Its really a scam Im convinced! I wasnt even sit on the receiving area after my complaint, maybe afraid others will hear me.
After 3days of daily coming back to their office, the same mgr told me that i colud cancel if i write to the head office for cancellation. She told me to give tho her my cancellation letter so its faster daw to reach the ryt people. but i submitted my letter via email directly to their website. it was not fast but 3mos after, i receive an acknowledgemnt response from one of their higher-ups. i think i got the ryt person. months after the the acknowledgment, my request is still not moving. then i found out this link and included it in my follow-up emails. i told them its a pity this link is one of the top10 result when u seach for philam plans in google. then i included the url of this link in my email so they can read it.
Fortunately, after 11months of follow-up, i got the chargeback request for my credit card just this November. Its a chargeback so u wont get ur cash back even if it has long been paid, (i settled the whole mount of P46k when it came due the next month because id have more problem if it will incur such a big interest, ’twas really a headache). The chargeback will apply as a new payment for the current month. But its a great help that im out of that stupid transaction! i hope this helps!
Hi all! I wrote a letter to their main office last November 9, sent it through LBC (para mareceive agad nila). I received a phone call from Philam Plans the next day and they said they’ll look into my concern. Last thursday I received a letter saying they received my letter and they are going to reverse the charge on my credit card. so i guess i’ll get the entire amount. i simply need to return the policy (kakareceive ko lang din) as well as the cancellation form that came with their letter accepting my cancellation. i am glad with their fast response. I hope this doesnt happen to anybody anymore.
Hi miss Jem. Were you able to get a refund? HOw many days is the whole processing? Thanks.
