Background of the Vicente Sotto Operation Video Scandal
On January 3 this year, a team of doctors and nurses at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) in Cebu conducted an operation to remove a perfume spray canister in the anus of a 39 year old homosexual. A video was taken while the doctors and nurses do the operation and make fun and mockery of the patient.
A member of the Vicente Sotto medical team that conducted the operation is seen here taking pictures or videos with a camera during the operation. Vicente sotto scandal Youtube unedited version shows nurses and doctors giggle and had “fun” during the operation.
On January 5, a doctor allegedly approached the patient dentified as “JanJan” and asked him whether he is interested in earning money by uploading the video of his operation in youtube.The patient refused only to find out later that the video is already circulating in cellphones and the internet.
Shame for the Philippine Medical Industry
What these doctors and nurses did is really a big shame. They should all be stripped off of their licenses because they do not deserve the trust of their patients. Everyone of us do not want to experience the same thing, to have an operation one day only to learn the next day that what happened during the operation is being distributed by the doctors and nurses.

This is big shame for us and totally a humilitation done by the Filipinos. And now is the time that we are promoting our medical services abroad. We would really have a hard time to regain the trust of everyone. The surgeon should be helo liable to this shame, we can’t just put the blame to the interns. They should know that every surgeon and doctor should learn the value of confidentiality. It’s a doctor-patient relationship. So I believe that they are accountable for this and I trust the Philippine Medical Association to take an aqction to this very indecent action.

Patients’ right to privacy and confidentiality are the two main things that professional doctors and nurses should respect. What’s become of the dignity of the patient lying on the table when he has become the laughing stock of these healthworkers? Clearly, a violation of privacy act. The doctors and nurses involved in his care should know better than that. Shame on you for degrading our profession.!!!!!
the community of doctors and health care specialist/professionals remains a dignified and noble profession. these people involved in this kind of humiliating scandal should, with no mercy, be removed and stripped off of their white uniform and should be forever banned to practice health care.. the medical society still upholds their dignity as “God’s righteous and healing hands” but the people involved here are just instrument of the devil.

The names of the doctors and nurses should be known to the public. I am confused why their names are not divulged yet. Anyone knows their identities? Please publish their names.
Some names were revealed, i guess only four. Apparently people who are influential (I think), are trying to unpublish their names, scared to tell more, coz the more they talk, the more news people get, and whatever they say, it’s useless, it’s a win-lose situation, and i know for sure that they will lose in this battle. They are trying to protect their names, yet when they did this shame, they never thought about making a big mistake and shame, a shame that will be forever be there, not just to themselves but to everyone. I can’t imagine how moron they played on this serious stuff. Gah! the surgery room seemed like a party house! And here’s one thing that pisses me off everytime– they are trying to tell if how sure this complainant is, that it was him on the video. such a stupid side they want to focus. That is not the issue, the point is whoever he is, the doctor-patient relationship should always be and should remain confidential. A surgery room is a place where everyone entrusts his life to the doctors.
I hope this has given us too much lesson. Though I still trust our doctors here coz many doctors and nurses are competent and great.
When I learned about how the doctors behaved and how the medical team tell the whole world (via youtube and bluetooth) about the operation, I wonder how I (and other people) would feel when their operations (CS, etc) were distributed by their doctors in youtube.
Will they not skin their doctors alive?

These are the partial list of doctors/nurses involved in the sugery:
• Dr. Philips Leo Arias, head surgeon;
• Dr. Angelo Alinawagan, assisting surgeon;
• Dr. Max Joseph Montecillo, surgeon at an adjacent operating table;
• Nursing attendant Rosemarie Villareal; and
• Circulating nurse Carmiña Sapio.
This incident is very shameful and unforgivable! These so-called-doctors-and-nurses should be stripped of their licenses! They bring shame to the Philippines!

IMMORALITY is everywhere! The only Christian nation in Asia is suffering from the agony of D.E.A.T.H (Divorced, Euthanasia, Abortion, Total Dependence on Contraceptives, and Homosexual Relationship). If not because of immorality the canister wont be placed in the anus. Unprofessional medical team resulting to immorality and became an scandal.This immorality soon will bring us all into D.E.A.T.H

I strongly believe that no matter what the gender of the person, he/she should still be protected with the privacy act that is entitled to them. Patient’s integrity and dignity should be respected regardless of sexual orientation. I believe that just because the patience placed a canister in his anus means he is to be blamed for the misconduct of the medical team. Do not be a hypocrite.
What would you do if a guy’s false teeth got stuck in your vagina?
They should be banned from the medical practice– doctors and nurses alike as well as all the interns involved in that video. They do not have any right to wear the uniforms. Shame on the Philippine Medical Association and the Professional Regulation Commission if they will just sweep this under the rug
I just believe that even in our elementary years, we’re already taught of the value of ‘Integrity’ and ‘Respect for the Individual’. How much more in taking up a college course, especially Medicine and/or Nursing, where vital situations are handled every now and then!
Now, these doctors and nurses don’t have necessarily to go through this kind of shameful realization just to REMEMBER and START EMBODYING these values!
Even the littlest creation in this world deserves the care and attention it needs.. how much more human beings! Though these patients may be of the third sex, do they not deserve the same respect as we ought how to be respected? THEY ARE!
God bless these medical practitioners then and forgive them of their misconducts.
To the next med generation, PLEASE UPHOLD YOUR MORAL INTEGRITY, PROFESSIONAL DIGNITY AND OF MOST, YOUR CHRISTIAN VALUES!
this event is surely unacceptable. i am a student nurse studying in the ATENEO here in davao and i’m proud of it. only to find out what these “professional” doctors and nurses did. it’s a shame not only to the profession but also to the FILIPINOS who are promoting their medical care and expertise abroad. as a matter of fact, the should and must do something about this. i cant imagine someone this heartless and inconsiderate a professional like them. they have proven not only unworhty of their licenses but also, they have proven unworthy of the trusts of their patients. what a great example for the students they are teaching in CEBU DOCTORS COLLEGE. it’s a shame, really.
i admit, it have had really sounded funny when i have heard it at first. it is undeniable, but considering we are in a caring profession, we should not scandalize nor vulgarize the things that are ocurring in such a private place such as the OPERATING ROOM. let the government react to this or else we (filipino nurses) will be the one to suffer for this careless action.
Its a real shame.! what will the foreign people say about the Filipino doctors and nurses? that we cannot be trusted? that Filipinos are rude and cruel? the Cebu medical team gives us the shame of a lifetime.! it i s going to be a big impact to the Philippines racial discrimination. homosexual are to be respected and not to be tricked or fooled.!
