Why I don’t want to work overseas

I hate it everytime I hear people taking certain courses in college simply because “they want to go abroad”. Sadly, I can’t blame these people. Nurses in the Philippines, for example, earn less than 12,000 a month or more or less 3512 dollars in one year while nurses who work in California are, according to a 2006 survey, earns around $80,000 a year. Big difference huh?
I have always felt odd not having that desire to go and work abroad. While most of my cousins get excited being able to work in countries overseas, I turn down offers to go out. Sometimes I blame my grade six adviser who discouraged her students not to go abroad. She asked us what will happen to the country if all the best people and brilliant minds of the country will go out.
Hmmmfffff, bad influence? Not really. I feel happier and more content to be with my country. Although of course, I earn less than than 74 percent of what my friends earn abroad hahahahah but geeeezzzzzz, I’m a dollar earner too (wink, wink!) and I can’t imagine my son growing up without me or all of us huddled together in a fireplace in a cold snowy place somewhere every night for a month hahahah… I just hope that people will consider me normal when I do not get excited over working abroad. I will travel outside the country as a tourist but I will never work and live in other countries. PERIOD. I hope people will stop asking me why.
